Our Children, Our Future
Children are believed to be a huge asset for the future. This exact saying can be heard said in any parts of the world, which in includes Indonesia. It is often said in Indonesia that children will grow to be the leaders of the next generation. But what happens to those who are less fortunate? How will we ensure that they receive the proper education they deserve and be certain that they will be like the rest of the children that are more fortunate?
The number of street children across the country is unknown. Komnas PA estimated 50,000 nationwide; while a 2002 Family Health International study estimated the number at nearly 71,000. This is a huge number and when you consider it, is a large percentage of the children that has the potential to run the country in the future.
In order to answer our growing concern we, as Indonesian Students Association in Arnhem-Nijmegen (ISA-AN) or Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia Arnhem-Nijmegen (PPI-AN), have decided that this issue should be what our cause is for holding this event. We want to donate a certain amount of the money we raise from this event to send back to an organization in Indonesia, which will then ensure that the money will be given directly to those in need.
When and Where
Place : Wijkcentrum Meijhorst Dukenburg Nijmegen
Date : Sunday, May 14 th , 2006
Time : 13.00 – 18.00
Our Objectives
- To give the Indonesians living in the Netherlands the chance to get acquainted with each other.
- To have performances and other concrete forms of our culture that will remind the Indonesian visitors with their country.
- To raise fund for a children-related organization, called Yayasan Tunas Cendekia, in Indonesia. This organization is located in Jakarta and consistently trying to raise fund to those children who are less fortunate, and it is the same organization as the organization we donated money to last year, the reason for maintaining them as our organization is that we found them to be reliable and share the same goals as those we have for this certain event.
